Summernats
I'm not going to pretend that I know anything about cars. Heck, I don't even know how to drive. But I do appreciate an opportunity to test out my new camera, which I won't delve into at the risk of sounding like an insufferable influencer. For the photography enthusiasts, there'll be some details about which camera and film simulations I used below.
If you don't know, Summernats is australia's national car festival, where over 130,000 people from all over the country come together to show off their street machines.

All photos were taken using the Fujifilm X100VI + Velvia or Acros+Ye film simulations with minimal post-processing.
Most Canberrans I know have a love-hate relationship with the event. Supporters love the millions of dollars visitors spend, while the naysayers complain about the 'hoons' and burnouts.
I used to think that Summernats hate was classist. And I still think it is, to some extent, particularly when the people I know who usually complain are the ones who are wealthy enough to live near EPIC or a have a holiday home in the South Coast to escape to.
But the very masculine energy that comes with Summernats enthusiasts is undeniable. Wet t-shirt contests and strip shows were highlights until 2010 and 2012, respectively, when they were scrapped. Astonishing.

I think the Fujifilm Acros+Ye film simulation rendered beautifully here.
Love or hate the event, the cars are works of art.

This Mitsuoka New Le Seyde was particularly funky. Update: Sadly it was too crowded to take a decent shot of the whole car.
I don't think I'll ever bring myself to commit to a spectator ticket at EPIC but I'll likely be back at the next fringe event for more snaps 📷.
'Til next year!

It truly is a shame that we no longer produce Holdens in australia. Look at these beauties!
